Israel on Thursday recorded more than 5,000 new daily coronavirus cases for the third day in a series confirmed the day before.
The Ministry of Health said 5,253 people were tested for COVID-19 on Wednesday after 96,835 tests were performed, setting the fall rate at 5.5%.

Of the 42,402 patients fighting the disease, 639 are in poor condition, with 165 connected to ventilators. The death toll since the onset of the pandemic is now at 3,314.
The Israeli coronavirus czar said Wednesday night that the nationwide lock-in in its current form is not effective enough in bringing the disease down and needs to be much tougher.
Prof. Nachman Ash said in a meeting with local authority leaders that the Ministry of Health must propose tightening the lock, which Israel submitted on Sunday afternoon.

The Ministry of Health also said Thursday that nearly 800,000 Israelis have received the first of the two required doses of the coronavirus vaccine.
Keeping at a rate of 150,000 injections per day, nearly 30% of the country’s population over 60 have already been vaccinated, with 7.74% of the general population vaccinated.
