Israel will set up hundreds of potential polling stations for coronavirus carriers and their stand-alone carriers, including at Ben Gurion Airport and across some of the country’s stadiums.
Israelis will vote for the fourth time in less than two years on March 23.
Orly Adas Central Elections Committee Leader said during Thursday’s meeting that 349 dedicated polling stations will be set up exclusively for COVID patients, and another 409 will be built for Israelis alone.
Places where polling stations will be set up include Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem, Ramat Gan Stadium and Netanya Stadium, Shlomo Group Arena in Tel Aviv, as well as many parking lots, including Beit Dagan Cemetery car park.
In addition, to avoid a situation where coronavirus patients walk outside their homes on the way to the polls, the committee will provide a free shuttle, which will provide carriers confirmed to and from the particular polling stations.
The Electoral Committee is also working to provide transport solutions for those who are self-absorbed at home without a private vehicle.
The committee will also set up around 547 polling stations at nursing homes and supported living facilities, allowing older people to vote without the virus.
It is currently estimated that around 15,000 polling stations will be set up across the country.
“We’re on the home field,” Adas said. “I did not expect this level of uncertainty to continue until the last days before the elections, but here we are. We are still preparing despite the fact that we were only a few days before the election.” – no it has happened to us before. “
Adas contributed to the decision to encourage the opening of a polling station at Ben Gurion Airport, among other things, by the Supreme Court decision to suspend and increase the travel limits set by the government. the arrival of passengers at the airport on election day.
The committee leader also said drones will be used to detect overcrowding at polling stations, which will help with a more secure allocation of resources and manpower.
According to Adas, due to the long lines expected by the polling stations, the results of the elections are likely to take longer to come in.

“I think it will take a little longer,” Adas said. “I estimate, by Wednesday morning (March 24), that we will be able to produce about 60% -70% of the results from across the country. “
The committee has also decided to appoint an inspector at each of the polling stations to ensure that the purity of the elections is maintained. In total, there will be approximately 15,000 inspectors based across the country.
Adas also dismissed allegations that the General Elections Committee is biased, thus trying to stretch the results.
“I think the Central Electoral Committee has shown exceptional operational capabilities, and not every claim made to date has been substantiated. “
