Israel needs a new political approach

The polls ahead of Tuesday’s elections are likely to stand again after the votes have been counted, not surprisingly since a government was not formed smoothly after any of the three elections. finally.

It could be a coalition led by Likud or one made up of a fashion that goes against the Likud and leader Benjamin Netanyahu. There could be even a fifth round of elections soon – although that could also be a clear failure.

It is therefore incumbent on Israelis to find a logical solution that would move the country forward.

Israel needs to restart many of its institutions, including political establishment and leadership.

One single person is in charge of the ongoing election campaigns and that is Netanyahu. If he remains in power after the next elections, he will no longer put the political system back in the service of his personal agenda.

Without Netanyahu, the Likud party would be able to re-launch itself and rebuild its leadership to return to the political arena with new leaders and ideas.

The latest campaign was not about ideology, perhaps for the first time since the founding of the state. It was also not a fight between two leadership options, which is why we need to look for a different approach.

Israel should have an emergency government made up of the four main parties outside Likud: Yesh Atid; Yamina; New Hope; and Yisrael Beytenu.

The four leaders of these parties should lead the country in a temporary government that would be in power for a year or two at most, to address the problems caused by Netanyahu and his governments. a few years ago.

The new government would focus its efforts on issues of broad consensus and postpone ideological issues for a later date.

Problems that need urgent attention include the health system. It needs to be strengthened to meet the remaining challenges of pandemic pandemic infection and the measures needed to prevent an outbreak.

It also needs to put in place a procedure needed to deal with future health emergencies and with the budget to provide proper care to Israelis in need of medical attention.

The economic ruin caused by the pandemic should also be addressed. The next government needs to increase economic growth, reduce national debt and offer special support to those sectors damaged by the locks.

The country’s political system needs to be rebuilt on the basis of justice and ethics.

Legislation must be in place to prevent anyone who has committed a crime from running for prime minister. There must also be limits to the size of the government and a reversal of the legislation that allowed the power-sharing deal between Netanyahu and Other Title Prime Minister Benny Gantz, which was anchored in law but not fulfilled. never.

The system of judgment must change but not be destroyed. The courts are the third branch of government and must be protected.

There must be a maximum power of 75 or 80 for MKs to overturn any law reversed by the Supreme Court.

It is imperative to rebuild public confidence in the government, repair the movements in Israeli society and make some national reconciliation after the toxic feeling of the past two years.

The new government must stop deciding on ideological policies but should still be able to support peace agreements already signed as part of the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and parts of the Sunni Muslim world.

The issue of egalitarian military service should be postponed during the term of the emergency government, allowing ultra-rectangular parties to join the coalition if they wish to do so.

The success or failure of such a government would depend on the politicians involved. If they can set aside their egos for the good of the country, he may succeed in his mission.
