Israel jumps to slot no. 5 on the Bloomberg COVID Sustainability Rating

Israel jumped nine places and moved into the top five of the Bloomberg COVID Sustainability Range last week.

The ranking evaluates 53 countries based on several key data points to determine where coronavirus is most effectively treated. Bloomberg looks at which countries have the lowest mortality rates and the highest test and immunization rates, as well as the lowest levels of economic and social disruption.

Israel moved into slot 5, placing it just below New Zealand, Singapore, Australia and Taiwan – countries that have ranked well since Bloomberg issued the ranking in November 2020. These countries took the action earlier to halt the spread of the virus and have maintained better management over the past year to provide a higher quality of life for its citizens.

“Israel is the first new entrant into the top of the Resilience Ranking since Bloomberg began monitoring in November, with a pantheon of COVID success stories controlled by Asian-Pacific economies,” a report by Bloomberg. “But unlike many advanced places where entry is tightly pollinated to keep out the coronavirus, vaccine-led Israeli normalization means it quickly eases border loops.”

Israel opened the skies completely starting on March 20 to allow all Israeli citizens to enter the country and cast their votes for a new government. No new restrictions have been imposed since last Tuesday’s election. The slate of the coronavirus cabinet was met at the request of senior Ministry of Health officials on Monday.

Bloomberg analysts said they believe new changes – most likely to enter Israel through Ben-Gurion Airport – could threaten vaccine development and fuel new waves.

“The more unexplained coronavirus spreads, the greater the chance of dangerous mutations developing. It has already been shown that some of the existing vaccines are not as effective against new changes as the one from South Africa, and the opportunity for a new variant to enter a vaccinated country and to reduce new wave lighting, ”wrote Bloomberg. “The sustainability of these vaccine-led revivals will be a key focus into April, when we update the COVID Rehabilitation Zone again.”

Other countries that have improved their rankings as a result of vaccination efforts include the United States, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates. In these countries, at least a fifth of their population has been kicked.
