Israel is relocating remote hotels, launching electronic tagging for travelers

Israel on Wednesday reintroduced compulsory loneliness in state-run hotels for people arriving in Israel from abroad while the Ministry of Health launched a pilot program in which travelers quarantine at home and obtain an electronic tag as part of the measures to prevent the spread of COVID19.

The Knesset Constitution, Justice and Justice Committee agreed to extend the order to March 2 after panel chairman MK Yaakov Asher (United Torah Judaism) opposed it, forcing the government to give him alternatives. .

The order ended overnight Monday to Tuesday, and since then many Israelis who landed at Ben Gurion Airport have just returned home. In comparison, about 80 passengers arriving in Israel on Wednesday night’s Lufthansa flight will be taken to hotels.

Passengers, on the other hand, will have the option to participate in the new pilot program and separate themselves at home.

As part of the pilot, the state will initially issue 100 tracking packages to passengers to ensure they do not leave their quarantine space during the isolation period. It is planned to expand the program to 1,000 kittens within days.

Passengers wishing to separate at home instead of a hotel must deposit a NIS-1,500 investment.

Israeli Police representatives declined to take responsibility for suspecting the system, but officers would be used to enforce quarantine violations.

The tracking and recognition company SuperCom operates the program, transporting ankle bracelets, electronic tags and smartphones to about 1,000 Israelis returning from abroad.

Deputy Health Minister Yoav Kisch said the new measures are part of Israel’s efforts to halt the spread of new COVID-19 variants across the country and will be put to a Knesset vote next week.

“We are very concerned about new changes coming in that could jeopardize the vaccination campaign,” Kisch said. “To this end, we need loneliness in hotels for people to come and visit. -null over. Those who take a negative test [for coronavirus] at the airport they can part at home with electronic tagging. Those who do not want to can stay in a hotel. We’re not taking anyone. We have legal permission to start the pilot and it will go up for a vote next week. “

At the same time, the Ministry of Health is exploring additional technological solutions, such as reintroducing the controversy. cell phone tracking scheme operated by Shin Bet home security service last year.
