The director of the Ministry of Defense’s “Wall” in Mapat (Director of Research and Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure), together with the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA), announced today (Tuesday) that it has successfully completed a series of interception tests of the “Magic Wand” (“Sling of David”), in the face of threats that simulate cruise missiles and ballistic missiles. The experiments were carried out under the leadership of the Rafael company from an experimental field in the center of the country, with the participation of the Air Force and the Navy. The success of the series is an important milestone in the operational ability of the State of Israel to defend itself against existing and future threats in the arena.
In the series of experiments, the capabilities of the “magic wand” weapon system were tested in a new and advanced development version. The series included a number of scenarios that simulate new and future threats, which the system may face during a conflict. The results of the experiments will allow development engineers to continue to upgrade system capabilities. The Air Force fighter fighters also participated in the operation of the interception systems.
As part of the series, the director of “Homa” at Mapat and the “Rafael” company also successfully demonstrated the capabilities of the “Iron Dome” system to intercept cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles and a variety of threats. Another proof is the multi-layered connectivity of all missile defense systems (arrow, magic wand and iron dome), which will allow the systems to jointly manage the threats and add interception opportunities during a confrontation.
Representatives of the American MDA and the industries involved in the development of the weapons system participated in the series: Rafael is the main contractor for the development of the “Magic Wand” weapon system, in cooperation with the American company “Raytheon”. IAI’s Elta Division has developed the MMR radar.
Elbit Systems has developed the Shaked Gold command and control system. The “magic wand” weapon system is a key component in the multi-layered defense system, the development of which is being led by the Ministry of Defense through the “Wall” administration in Mapat. The multi-layered defense system is based on four operational layers of defense in the Air Force: the “Iron Dome” system, the “Magic Wand” system, the “Arrow 2” system and the “Arrow 3” system.
