“Our relations with Iran will not be affected by the current situation, but will be permanent and strategic,” Chinese Foreign Minister Wang told Iranian news agencies. “Iran is independently deciding on its relations with other countries,” Wang noted, “It does not behave like certain countries that change their position in a single phone call.”
To sign the agreement, Wang arrived in Tehran and also met with President Rouhani. The agreement is expected to include Chinese investments in key industries such as energy and infrastructure. “The agreement is an example of ‘successful diplomacy,'” Rouhani’s adviser said. “The power of a state is in its ability to join coalitions, not to remain isolated.”
On Thursday, China announced that Beijing will work for the nuclear deal signed in 2015 and to protect the legitimate interests of China-Iran relations. As you may recall, former US President Trump withdrew from the agreement and imposed sanctions on Tehran. Now, the Biden administration is taking a different approach and putting the nuclear agreement “on the table” again.
