Indonesia approves Sinovac China vaccine for use in the elderly

Indonesia agreed with China Coov-19 vaccine at Sinovac Biotech Ltd. for use on the elderly and could start onoculations between March and April, said Ministry of Health spokeswoman Siti Nadia Tarmizi.

State-owned PT Bio Farma, which is partnering with Sinovac to export the images locally, obtained the permission in a letter from the food and drug agency, a spokesman for the Bambang Heriyanto company in text messaging. Reuters reported on the agreement earlier.

Indonesia started a mass inoculation on January 13 by Sinovac vaccine. More than 777,000 people have had their first sighting and about 137,000 have had a second look, official data showed. The government expected to vaccinate 181.5 million people by March 2022.

Covid-19 infections and deaths continued to rise the highest numbers in a Southeast Asian country in January. Authorities confirmed 191 deaths from the virus in the 24 hours through noon Saturday, bringing the majority to 31,393. More than 1.5 million Indians have tested positive for Covid-19 and 939,184 have recovered from the disease.
