India’s space mission ends a year orbiting the moonNew Delhi, 20 August (Prensa Latina) India’s second space mission to the Moon with the Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft completed Thursday on a year of orbiting the Earth’s natural satellite.

The Indian Space Observatory (ISRO) has stated in a press release that the spacecraft’s instruments are working well and with enough fuel on board to stay operational for another seven years.

Chandrayaan-2 was launched by ISRO on July 22, 2019, and was launched into lunar orbit on August 20 last year.

Although the attempt to land on the undiscovered South Pole at the moon using a lander was unsuccessful, the orbiter with eight scientific instruments ended up over 4,400 laps around the Moon.

Scientific payloads, including the high-resolution camera on board the orbiter to map the lunar surface and study the lunar exosphere (outer atmosphere), sent their data to the Space Science Data Center Indian.

The Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft was launched to expand knowledge about the Moon by studying its topography, mineralogy, surface chemical combination, thermophysical properties and atmosphere, to better understand its origin and its evolution.
