The remaining three T20 internationals in England against India in Ahmedabad will be played behind closed doors due to an increase in the number of coronavirus cases in Gujarat state.

Fans were allowed to attend the first two games at Narendra Modi Stadium with a huge crowd of over 60,000 but fans will now be absent for the games on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

“As a result of the increase in the number of coronavirus cases, we at GCA (Gujarat Cricket Association) have decided with BCCI that the matches will be played behind closed doors,” said Dhanraj Nathwani, vice president of the Association Gujarat Cricket.

BCCI honorary secretary Jay Shah said in a statement: “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in consultation with the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) has decided to make the last three T20Is against England at Narendra Modi Stadium behind closed doors. .

“The decision was reached after detailed discussions with the state and local health authorities.

“The BCCI will continue to adhere to the rules put in place to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus and will always put the health and safety of its fans and stakeholders at the top.

“Those who bought tickets for any or all three T20Is will be reimbursed.”

An ECB spokesman said: “As well as reducing the noise level in the stadium, it will have little effect on us.

England beat India by eight wickets in the first international T20 on Friday before the guests kicked back to level up the five-game series at 1-1 with a seven-wicket win in the second game.

After the end of the T20I series, England will play India in three one-day internationals in Pune, on Tuesday, March 23, Friday, March 26 and Sunday, March 28.
