Incident in the Kedumim: The fighter was ousted

A few days after the incident in which a Golani fighter did not act to neutralize a terrorist who threw a Molotov cocktail at him, the IDF decided today (Monday) to remove him from office. The decision was made following a preliminary investigation of the incident, which took place last Saturday in the Samaria Regional Brigade.

“The interrogation shows that in the afternoon, an IDF fighter, who secured a rear entry point in Kedumim, identified a suspicious conduct during which a man got out of his vehicle and advanced toward the bus stop while examining the guard post,” the IDF spokesman said. “In light of the suspect’s conduct, the fighter decided to get down from the position and call the suspect to come for an inspection. In response to the fighter’s calls, the suspect got out of his vehicle and quickly approached the fighter shouting.

“The fighter initiated a suspicious arrest procedure that included calls to stop and step on the weapon. The fighter identified suspicious conduct but did not notice any suspicious means. The incident ended with a Molotov cocktail being thrown by the suspect at the fighter and his escape, without opening fire on the fighter.”

The IDF clarified that although this was a “complex situation”, the fighter was supposed to complete a suspicious arrest procedure and respond “to the point of neutralizing the terrorist as stipulated in the opening fire regulations.” Therefore, the Golani Reconnaissance Commander decided that the soldier would be fired. “Given the complexity of the case, his return to combat will be examined in a few months,” it was reported.
