In the last shot: Steph Kerry won the threesome competition

Beginning of an article

Contrary to what we knew in the days as a fix, the skill contest and triples are the ones that launched the All-Star 2021 in Atlanta tonight (Sunday through Monday). While the audience remained in the houses, the stars made sure to bring the ‘show’ with them, and the one who did it best of all was the greatest scorer in history.

For the second time in his career, Golden State star Steph Kerry picked up the triathlon title after delivering an outstanding performance. In the first part of the evening, Domantas Savonis won the qualifying competition after defeating Nikola Wojciech in the final.

So what did we have in the triples competition? She started with Jaylen Brown, who in his first All-Star disappointed with just 17 points, but his Boston teammate Jason Taitum came up behind him, scoring 25 (thanks to eight straight threes) and returning the Celtics the honor. Zack Lavine and Donovan Mitchell hoped to be the first to win both rings and threes, but scored 22 each and were dismissed by Steph Kerry (31) and Mike Conley (26).

In the final round, Taitum’s hands shook and he finished with 17, but Conley on the other hand came hot to his debut Allstar and with five consecutive threes in the last position – recorded 27 points. All the pressure was on the winning favorite, Kerry, who surprisingly opened with four straight fouls.

Despite this, the Warriors’ mighty sniper entered the ‘zone’, accurate with the two green balls (a farther shot that is worth 3 points) and the last shot a few seconds before the end came when he had 26 points. Meaning, hitting – winning, missing – losing to Conley. Kerry did not get confused, sniped the winner shot that gave him 28 points and won the title he dedicated to Clay Thompson at the finish.

Earlier, as mentioned, Savonis won the qualifying competition and completed the task from last season after finishing second. Despite the “advantage” of the guards, including two of the finest the league has to offer in the form of Chris Paul and Luka Doncic, the tall ones have once again proved that their position has no meaning in this competition.

In the first round Savonis defeated Julius Randall in an intriguing Mizrahi battle and Wojciech overcame Robert Covington. Savonis then took a stand against Luka Doncic, and Dallas’ friend in Dallas, Jaylen Bronson, took to Twitter to tweet: “You’re serious Luca …”. In the corresponding semifinal, the Orlando star defeated Paul after a series of three fouls by the two.

In the final round the excitement spoke and both chins were inaccurate, both in delivery and shooting off the arc. The one who broke the drought was Savonis, who sniped the three-pointer first and won the title for the first time in his career. In addition, he is the first Indiana player and the third from Europe to pick up the title.
