IG Group restricts trading on GameStop and AMC due to ‘extreme volatility’

(Reuters) – IG Group Holdings Plc’s online trading platform said on Saturday that it will block any new positions on GameStop Corp and AMC Entertainment due to “real volatility” in the market.

“Due to extreme volatility, and to prioritize the service we provide to our existing clients, we are not allowing any new positions to open on US stock GameStop and AMC Entertainment,” he said. London-based IG in a tweet here.

“These restrictions will be reviewed regularly,” he said.

The company is the latest trading platform to announce restrictions following an increase in numbers in the past few days, ranging from calls on social media by individual investors to trading stocks such as GameStop and AMC that were heavily shortened by hedge funds.
