IDF: Smuggling of 80 kg of drugs was thwarted

Huge smuggling was thwarted thanks to IDF observations. Several suspects were identified in the morning (Tuesday) by the fighters in the area of the “Paran” regional brigade while they were trying to smuggle drugs from Egyptian territory to Israel, the IDF spokesman said.

The announcement stated that the fighters seized no less than 80 kg of drugs, valued at an estimated NIS 1.5 million. The seized drugs were handed over to the Israel Police.

Just last week, another drug smuggling worth three million shekels was thwarted in the same area. In this case, according to an IDF statement, the suspects’ vehicle was identified as it approached the border fence with Egypt, and a checkpoint was deployed at the spot. In response, gunfire was fired at the vehicle’s wheels. “100 kg of drugs were transferred for further treatment by the Israel Police.”

Last November, a 60-meter-long drug tunnel was exposed in Tel Sheva, where about 900 cannabis seedlings were found. The tunnel was divided into several cultivation complexes, and contained sophisticated equipment for growing cannabis under underground conditions. Following the discovery of the tunnel, two suspects were arrested, one of whom linked himself to the offenses attributed to him.
