Apple’s iCloud is reportedly found with a bug that prevented an author from accessing her account because her surname was ‘True’. Author Rachel True posted this on Twitter a few days ago, complaining that she was unable to log into her iCloud account. Based on her tweets, she was unable to access her account for 6 months for an issue that appears to be related to coding.
One of the tweets uploaded with ‘True’ showed a check screen saying “iCloud has stopped responding,” along with the option to send the diagnostic data to Apple. The detail section of the window refers to ‘cannot set true value’ to lastName property ‘. This indicates that Cloud defines the last name of “true” as a boolean flag instead of a text string.
Anyone else get this error from Apple iCloud? In the past or now?
I am 6 months deep freezing & looking for any help.
I bring back dead coding languages like kobalt .. & this is like Apple coding issue – not hardware pic.twitter.com/05EJmG3d6Y– Rachel True (@RachelTrue) February 27, 2021
True said she has already been calling with Apple for hours but is still unable to log in. But interestingly, her tweets later suggested that this was a beast that might deserve an Apple bug bounty award. Until yesterday (March 6), the issue was not resolved. However, it looks like Apple will contact us on Monday or Tuesday for help.
Speaking of iCloud, Apple recently introduced a new service that lets you download your iCloud Photo Library images and videos and then import them right into Google Photos. The company explains how consumers can do this, and it’s pretty straightforward. You can download your data from Apple’s privacy dashboard, select the option ‘transfer a copy of your data’ and Apple will do the rest.
On the other hand, the version of the Windows iCloud app that allowed you to sync passwords from your Apple devices with your Chrome web browser on a Windows PC was recently released. The changelog on the Windows Store still says that the password sync feature is available however, if you download it, you can still see that it is version 11.6 without the word sync option- faire.
