The Brazilian defender still believes the Blues are in good shape despite losing for the fourth time in their last six Premier League games
Thiago Silva has admitted he is at a loss to explain Chelsea’s form after being humbled by Manchester City.
Chelsea slipped to eighth in the Premier League table after suffering their fifth loss of the season on Sunday afternoon.
City ran out 3-1 winners at Stamford Bridge thanks to first-half goals from Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden and Kevin de Bruyne, with Callum Hudson-Odoi a comfort to the guests in the dying minutes of the game.
Chelsea’s final score was smoothed out when Pep Guardiola’s side missed a number of other clear chances, and Frank Lampard admitted his team played completely in his post-match interview.
“Today was a painful day in the first half when it comes to football because their level of play shows where we need to aim,” he said. BBC Sport. “In the second half I saw a response but the work needs to be done.”
Even a summer signing Silva, who has made a strong start to his career at Stamford Bridge, has been found wanting against City, but he still believes the Blues have enough quality within their ranks to turn the fortune around in the second half of the season.
When asked what went wrong for Chelsea a few weeks ago, the Brazilian said RMC Sports: “No, I don’t understand what’s wrong. If I understand before, I think I could give some advice, but that’s the way it is, it’s a ball it’s a footballer, it’s the Premier League, one of the toughest tournaments in the world.
“You have to be careful, work harder, be stronger as a team, but I think the team is good, the second half was much better than the first one in my opinion.
“We tried to play a little bit more, we managed to play. I think we were better in possession of the ball in the second half, sometimes it doesn’t work the way we want , how we prepared, but hey, that ‘s how football is. We have to prepare for the next game when it arrives. “
Silva and his team-mates need to quickly build a team of their own before their third round of the FA Cup against League Two Morecambe on 10 January.
The Blues are set to resume their latest Premier League campaign five days later, with the London derby clash against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
