Hyundai today (Tuesday) unveiled its smallest Jeep in the extended crossover family, the Bayon. This model, which will be screwed under the buyer and parallel to the Venue, will be the entrance ticket to the South Korean brand’s urban SUV worlds and like many of them shares economical engines, advanced safety systems, a modern cabin and a design that marks some of Hyundai’s future design language. .
The Bayonne, named after a resort town in the south of France known for its fondness for water sports tourism and a dynamic lifestyle – and developed exclusively for Europe, is based on a common floor for the Hyundai i20, but is slightly larger than it in dry values; In dimensions it is very close to the buyer with a length of 4.1 m, a width of 1.77 m, a height of 1.49 m and a wheelbase of 2.58 m. Its trunk is also relatively generous to the floor and it offers an impressive 411 liters of storage for proportions. Hyundai also promises adequate space between the first and second row and plenty of room for the knees.
On some level, the Bayon, a modest 5-seater vehicle, fills in the lack of a more focused version of the lifestyle than was previously packaged around the i20, as their distinctive design buys it space next to the latest Jeeps on the roads. It combines exterior elements taken from the Nexo hydrogen recreational vehicle, a bit of a buyer and two-story LED lighting strips at the front. Its tail is more interesting with a design reminiscent of the angular lighting beam of the Mitsubishi Eclipse-Cross and possibly also the Toyota Prius. On the sides of the rear C-beams are a pair of boomerang-shaped headlights connected by a thin and elegant LED strip and the reversing lights are integrated in the bumper. It can be characterized, depending on the version in standard 15-inch rims (plates) or 16 and 17 alloy. The color range consists of 9 options including color combinations with a contrasting color ceiling.
The driver’s operating space does not store big surprises but is organized and versatile – most of it is taken from the new i20 (will be shown in Israel soon). Hyundai has embedded a 10.25-inch main display on the top floor in more expensive models and an 8-inch for base models. The digital dashboard is almost complete. In the interface system, Apple and Android are connected wirelessly, two USB sockets in the front and one in the back, and the standard audio system can be upgraded to the BOSE sound stage. Some versions are also available with wireless charging for the cell phone. Bayon includes as standard all common safety systems: automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, steering deviation correction in senior lanes and in senior models, supervision of “dead” area in the side mirrors, cross-traffic warning at the rear and more.
In the line of engines in routine rows according to its positioning, and like the i20 adopts conventional engines that will not burden marketing costs; In simpler versions it is equipped with 1.2 L and 84 hp with five-speed manual transmission. Above it is a 1.0 L turbo engine with three pistons with a power of 100 or 120 hp, and this engine can be upgraded with a 48 volt battery (which technically changes the Setting it to hybrid-easy). There will already be an option for a six-speed manual or robotic gearbox, alongside a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox with an intermediate gas function (helps in a smoother transition between gears). This model will accelerate from standstill to 100 km / h in 10 seconds to a top speed of 184 km / h.
In Europe it is valued The price of the base version will be around 17,000 euros. The importer to Israel, Colmobil, told Olam Harav that the Bayon may arrive in Israel by the end of the year, but there is currently no accurate information about its local launch.
