Plaintiffs allege that Google misleads users who choose to browse in “incognito” mode, contrary to promises, and continues to collect information about their usage habits. They also said they passed some of the information to publishers and tracked their search history.
Google spokesman Jose Castaneda told The Verge in a statement that the company disagreed with the prosecution’s claims, and that it would “vigorously defend itself.” According to him, every time a new window is opened in a Chrome browser under private mode, users are warned that Google and third-party companies may be exposed to their information and activities.
