Gamers who have all Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles have one problem: Their video game controllers seem to be dirty. Like any device that frequently communicates with your hands, game controllers collect sweat, bacteria, and other bad debris that you don’t always see. Fortunately, you don’t have to cut back on your playing time to keep these devices healthy: You only have a few minutes and the right tools.
Video game controllers are sensitive electronic devices, which means they need to be handled delicately. According to Mashable, some major game companies are warning against exposing them to liquids or chemicals. But if you’ve owned your controller for a while, it looks like it needs deeper cleaning than a dry pipe can provide. When using lifts such as water, dish soap, or rubbing alcohol at your own risk, just be sure to be careful.
Before doing anything, power off your controller and unplug any cords or accessories. How-to Geek recommends focusing on problem areas where your device may have the most build-up. These include the grooves, grips, grooves, and any tight angles.
To remove dirt and grime from hard-to-reach areas such as the buttons and grips, scrub with a Q-tip. Dipping the Q-tip in water and alcohol solution or soap and water dish will make this part easier. To clean the grooves and tight cracks, grip a toothpick. This digs up any debris that has been deposited in the cracks, and the top is soft enough so it doesn’t scratch the cover. You can also do this with the edge of a piece of folded paper.
After giving your administrator details, give it one good wipe with a damp cloth or paper towel. Wrap it again with a dry towel and make sure it is completely dry before removing it.
Regularly cleaning your video game controller helps keep the device and you healthy. To keep the rest of your business looking fresh, follow this guide on how often you should clean everything in your home.
