Apple’s iOS 14.5 is expected to launch very soon, with a handful of new features that are pretty cool for your iPhone. Mar new features of iOS 14.5 still released during the beta release, it looks like this is probably Apple ‘s most impressive iOS 14 update yet for those who care about security and privacy.
That’s because Apple confirmed this week that its Safari browser is going to be even more private by bypassing Google Safe browsing in favor of its own attendants.
In particular, the new iPhone privacy feature redirects Google Safe Browsing traffic through Apple’s own proxy servers to strengthen user privacy and provide Google with any data. The 8-Bit reports.
Previously, Apple would send an encoded version of the site’s address to Google’s Safe Browsing to compare it to Google’s list of fake sites. But the problem with this was that Google would see your IP address.
Apple’s new feature means that Safari protects this information when you browse your iPhone, leading to more privacy (and less trust in Google).
The move was confirmed by Apple’s CEO on WebKit Maciej Stachowiak.
What does the new iOS 14.5 Safari privacy move mean?
It’s a great move for iPhone privacy, especially if you, like many users, want to bypass Google’s services. Sean Wright, SME director of app security at Immersive Labs, says that while Apple’s new move means “you’re moving your IP address from one company to another,” most people seem to trust it. -all Apple users in a larger iPhone maker than Google.
“Google doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to privacy,” Wright said. Apple’s business model is not based on consumer data (advertising), but Google does. That pretty much says it all. “
Other privacy and security features of iOS 14.5
The Safari move is the latest in a huge line of security and privacy features already tested in iOS 14.5. Last week, I wrote about the new feature that lets you unlock your iPhone while wearing a mask while using your Apple Watch.
Also confirmed in iOS 14.5 – and in my opinion the biggest and most interesting iPhone feature – will be seen as the likes of Facebook asking you to opt in to find users. It builds on Apple’s privacy labels launched last year.
There’s no doubt about it, iOS 14.5 is going to see a bunch of great security and privacy features landing on your iPhone. I, for one, am excited about trying them.
