Purim, a Jewish holiday traditionally celebrated with public ceremonies and gatherings, begins Thursday at noon.

Holiday closures prohibit large gatherings of more than 10 people indoors at concerts, parades or parties that are typical of a holiday getaway.

Israel opened its economy last week after a nearly two-month closure, the third country since the outbreak began. But in the last few days there has been a slight decrease in new infections.

It has one of the highest vaccine rates per capita, with more than 4.5 million citizens having received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
