“KAWS: Which party gives the opportunity to see how he became an artist, and to personally experience the vibrant and light colors in his paintings and the unique surface finishes of his objects, ”says curator Eugenie Tsai tells L’OFFICIEL. “Whether they are seeing the art of KAWS for the first time or are already experienced connoisseurs, visitors will come away with an understanding of the art, space and timeliness of its vision.”
Divided into five parts, the exhibition begins with the beginning of KAWS ’art career, after graduating from the New York School of Visual Art and his time as a Disney animator. These major works include images of his graffiti tags and murals, and the modified bus shelter and telephone booth advertisements that were the original hallmarks of his talent. Next, the next part of the exhibition explores how the artist handles KAWS treatment for cartoon characters in his work, such as The Simpsons (The Kimpsons), The Smurfs (The Kurfs), and SpongeBob SquarePants (Kawsbob). Starting with points of nostalgia and experience, KAWS makes the iconic images for itself through the pointed skull and the Xed-out crosses and eyes, as well as the subtle subjects – and not so cunning – under the works’ shiny, fun. cream.
