Satchel Lee – who is a Golden Globes Ambassador this year with her brother, Jackson Lee – knows a thing or two about getting a really bad call. First, the writer, filmmaker and illustrator slipped into a standard costume, with a Gucci open back. “Both my brother Jackson had an amazing opportunity to work with the design teams there to do something special for the event,” says Lee. Vogue. “I feel elegant and more importantly, I feel like myself. I’ve always tried to feel like myself as much as I could. ”

Lee’s hair and makeup for the evening was an extension of those secrets. She chose “soft glam,” courtesy of makeup artist Natalia Thoma and hairdresser Latisha Chong. “I’m a very low-key person,” Lee says. “Some people can wear a lot of looks, but they can’t handle my face. I tried, I “Always looking crazy,” she said with a laugh, “I just wanted a more polished version of my everyday look.” That said, Thoma told her to put a little spark on her eyes (courtesy of Pat McGrath’s eyeshadow pattern), to mark Christmas time. “I thought I’d go for it, because it’s a special occasion, ”says Lee

As for the hair, Lee wanted something that would allow her face to go through, making an elegant solution for an updo. “I’m a bunch girl,” she says. “There’s something so nice about throwing your hair up and not having to worry about it for the rest of the day.” Chong created a shapely, visual look that felt formal but “still cool and hip at the same time. ”

Overall, Lee says she was inspired by all things “adult and sexual,” to add to the classic silhouette of the dress. Here, Lee shares a few minutes behind the scenes from her Golden Globes prep.
