Naomi Osaka doesn’t like long, busy stretches away from the comforts of home so she plans the European portion of her schedule accordingly in hopes of developing her title hopes at the French Open. and Wimbledon.
Osaka, who competed this week at the Miami Open near where she grew up, said that while she runs relentlessly without success she is still struggling with her schedule. shaped to give itself the best chance of success.
“I’m not quite sure what a normal record is but I never thought of myself as the kind of player who would play week in and week out,” Osaka said. “I personally often get homesick and it sometimes makes me sad. ”
The four-time Japanese Grand Slam champion gathered her second U.S. Open title last September and followed that up with a second win at the Australian Open in February.
Despite her success in those events, the 23-year-old Osaka never advanced beyond the third round of Roland Garros or the All England Club.
“I’d like to travel somewhere and just focus on that competition; for me that’s something I learned works for me, ”said Osaka.
“I hope it works for me this time in Europe because my results weren’t as great, but I feel like every year I’m on tour I learn more about myself and what kind of record do I enjoy playing. ”
Osaka is the second seed in Miami and has a blessing into the second round of the two – week tournament where she will have the opportunity to unseat defending champion Ash Barty as number one in the world.
