Holland did not help: 2: 4 to Gladbach over Dortmund

Beginning of an article

The German league may not necessarily always deliver great drama when it comes to the title fight, but it will always – but always – thrill the world football fan with unusual action. Tonight (Friday), the 18th round of the Bundesliga opened with a storm – with a big 2: 4 by Borussia Mönchengladbach over Borussia Dortmund. This is Gladbach’s first victory over the opponent after almost six years (the last was on 11.4.2015) and 12 consecutive losses in all competitions.

Only a minute of football was enough for Florian Neuhaus to put a ball in Dortmund’s net, but the goal was disallowed after the VAR intervention following an offense that preceded the move. 10 minutes later, Gladbach took the lead – this time really: a wonderful lift by Jonas Hoffman found Nico Albadi’s head – and from there into the net. By the way, this gate was also tested in VAR due to a different provider, but in the end it was approved.

The next few minutes belonged to two: Jayden Sancho and Arling Holland. The Englishman found the Norwegian inside the extension in the 22nd minute, and the striker continued artfully into the net from a not-so-simple angle with a bounce over the goalkeeper; 6 minutes later the formidable Holland took advantage of another Sancho delivery and finished with a sharp left-footed kick from close range to set up a makeover.

The Yellow-Blacks’ advantage lasted only 4 minutes, until Albadi, a stopper in his profession, completed a pair of his own as he rolled close to the net after a bad shot by Burki. 4 minutes into the second half, another turnaround was completed: Rami Bensbaini received a ball from Neuhaus, passed one defender and with his right foot sent a spinning ball to the bottom left corner – a great 2: 3 to Gladbach. The last word in this prey belonged to Marcus Toram, the son-in-law, who went up for a Neuhaus corner kick unhindered and slammed home the 2-4 close-range.

For Mönchengladbach this is a second consecutive league victory and fourth in the last five rounds, and it has climbed at least temporarily to fourth place in the table while overtaking Dortmund. The Schwarzgelben suffered a second straight loss and closed out a third straight league game without a win, and they could find themselves 13 points away from the top at the end of the cycle.
