History in the police: a woman photo for the position of deputy district

Will the police precede the IDF by appointing a woman to command a district? The senior command staff of the police decided that for the first time in the history of the organization a woman was appointed to the position of deputy district.

Lt. Col. Sigal Bar-Zvi photo for the deputy commander of the southern district of the police. “Whoever thinks she deserves to serve as a deputy thinks she deserves to be in charge of a district in the future,” senior police officials say.

The day-to-day occupation of a deputy district commander is not operational but primarily logistical. Until today, the position was reserved for men only, because there were no women in the organization who held core positions of command.

But Shabar Zvi commanded the Petah Tikva police station and the Ben Gurion Airport and Ayalon areas (the first woman to command the area), which now allowed her to take a job reserved for men. It should be noted that in the past, the late Ahuva Tomer also served as commander of the area, but her glorious service route was cut short by the Carmel disaster.

It should be emphasized that the position of deputy district commander is considered to be the most senior appointment in the rank of non-commissioned officer, and in the absence of the district commander, Bar Zvi will fill his place and engage in operational missions.

Complete list of appointments

As stated, Bar Zvi’s appointment was included in a discussion of placements for senior officers with the rank of non-commissioned officer, which today has the senior command staff of the police.
