Hilary Duff opens up about feeling ‘terribly heavy’ filming Younger’s last season

Hilary Duff said she was emotional about filming the end of her Younger series.

‘Honestly it’s heavy, it feels awfully heavy,’ the 33-year-old star told Brooke Baldwin, filling in on Ellen on Friday. ‘Everyone on that show shows where family is and we’ve all been through so much, you know, having kids, marriages, divorces.’

The Houston native said, ‘Our characters have grown as big as we have all grown as a family.’

Duff said it was ‘weird’ to part ways with a team on the rom-com series, which featured Sutton Foster, Miriam Shor and Hilary Duff.

‘I know I’ll see them again, but it’s weird, for seven years of my life I set up my other jobs away from those four months I’m in New York with those people in the that team, ‘she said. ‘Honestly the team were so emotional, it was like I don’t know when I’m going to see them again.’

Last September, show creator Darren Star told TVLine that the show’s seventh season was being ‘officially’ planned as its final.

The sixth season’s production took place in September of 2019, with the coronavirus pandemic shutting down the seventh season’s production until last fall.

Star said the COVID-19 pandemic is likely to re-enter into its seventh season.

‘The act of a younger kind picks up where last season, which preceded the pandemic, went,’ Star told the uprising. ‘But I think we’re looking forward to getting him into the action as the season progresses.’

Duff is currently expecting her third child – she is the mother of Banks’ daughter, two, by her husband Matthew Koma, and his eight-year-old son, Luca, by ex-husband Mike Comrie.

On the program, Duff said she wrote her latest children’s book My Little Brave Girl in the Notes app of her phone, opening up about the time frame that inspired the material.

‘Yes, in the Notes [app] of my phone, of course, ‘she said. I was going back to work and I had a very similar baby, so Banks was very attached to me and … not even four months postpartum yet, ‘she said. ‘I went back to work and 16, 17 hours on the set is not a good place for a baby, so a lot of pain grows and learns how to separate … it’s hard to let go. ‘

She said that by feeding the baby, she valued Banks’ bravery in turning the baby from ‘struggling’ by not being with her mother as much as she wanted.

‘She inspired this book,’ she said, noting that she was holding her daughter at the time she wrote it.
