When you are part of an NBA team that is 17 behind with only six minutes left on the clock, you will usually start thinking about the next game. Because that’s how it is to have 82 games a season. But all this is null and void if Damian Lillard is part of the same team. And tonight (Tuesday to Wednesday), they received a reference to it for the umpteenth time. The Portland star led a tremendous comeback and 124: 125 at the expense of the Pelicans – reminding everyone once again that he should be given some respect.
First, the numbers: In the last five games, except for one game in which he scored 25 points, Lillard has not dropped from 30 points. In the last two games, he averages 44 points per game. The 50 points and 10 assists he scored tonight in just 20 shots (!), Led him to second place in the list of players who scored the most double-doubles of 50 points and 10 assists combined with Russell Westbrook and Nate Archibald.
“I know what it’s like to be unknown and to not have the lights on you and to want to be seen …”

But those numbers, as described by NBA fans online, are “a child’s play for the clutch gods.” The Portland star leads the league in points in total clutch (124), black points on average per game (5.6) and percentage of penalties in clutch (100%). He also holds an average of 55.2% for three in the clutch and 60.7% from the field in the clutch. And all this in 22 clutch games (games where the difference is 5 and down in the last 5 minutes). Oh, and he also leads the league in clutch wins (16).
“None of that was possible without a job,” Lillard said at the conclusion. “You know, in high school and college I had to do my work behind the scenes, I had to earn my place. I never knew if I was going to get the credit for what I did. I know what it feels like to be unfamiliar, not in the spotlight, want to be seen or To win a scholarship to a senior college – and I will not forget those steps that brought me here. ”
“It’s true that now I have a family and I get all this publicity, but I do not forget what made it all possible. The work, the discipline, the modesty, the passion. All the things I bring as a person and they are the ones that made me achieve a lot of what I achieved. If I “I forget all this, I do not serve my family and anyone around me. I make sure to stay true to my truth, and as I do so, things keep coming – so I do it even more and it proves itself.”
One who particularly liked Lillard’s interview is Golden State star Drymond Green (“This is an amazing interview. Thank you, I learned a lot”). The forward was not content with that, and earlier described the Portland star’s show as “absurd” and “untrue” – and even squeezed a comment on Twitter from Lillard himself immediately after the game.
