Here’s how much it would cost to live on the Moon – BGR

Over the course of a year and a half, there seem to have been many times when you wanted to get away from it all. With a global pandemic, political unrest, and a handful of horrific things happening on the planet, that is completely understandable, but what would you really pay, indeed Get away? I mean I-don’t-want-to-live-on-this-planet-anymore kind of get away. Well, if you ever dreamed of escaping to Earth for the side of the moon, I have good news and some bad news.

The good news is, with China, Russia, and even NASA talking about the potential of permanent or semi-permanent “foundations” on the lunar surface, we are closer than ever to lunar tourism, or even lunar accommodations. The bad news? Someone took the time to crush the numbers, and living on the Moon is going to cost you in a big way.

In a long article by Money.co.uk, financial experts take a look at almost every aspect of Moon’s property ownership, from the shape of a lunar home to energy costs, food, and other necessities. They used data from various sources and interviewed experts to get the most accurate picture of home ownership costs on Earth’s natural satellite.

So what’s the baseline? You’re not going to ask. Are you sitting? No, I’m pregnant. Sit down. Okay, take a deep breath …

After offering a 10% down payment, a moon mortgage is going to cost you about $ 326,000… per month, for 25 years. If you extended it to 30 months it would be a little less, but still a celestial sum.

The price was calculated as the first lunar mortgage, and the total cost of the loan would be over $ 62 million. After the first lunar home was built and purchased, subsequent homes would be cheaper, the article says. Homes after the first one would cost just $ 52 million thanks to the experience gained and the systems put in place to produce the first Moon home. Say theft!

The only interesting little news here, as far as land costs go, is that the Moon is a gold mine. There is nothing, after all, and that means that land is free of dirt. You can build an acre of land on the Moon for less than $ 20, based on the latest price estimates. Of course, any development on that land will cost you dearly, but at least the land itself is cheap, right?

Obviously, we are still far from anyone who calls the Moon their home. The first new crew missions to the Moon could begin in about four years, but even if China succeeds in building the first lunar base, that will not happen for another decade. From there, we need to see how things go before someone decides whether or not they want to stay there.
