Helen George says this year’s Call the Midwife festival special is a “Christmas miracle” and even more than usual there is a “love letter to the NHS” following the incredible work of healthcare professionals during COVID-19 pandemic.
George, who plays nurse Trixie Franklin in the BBC One time-lapse drama set at the East London convent of Nonnatus House, won praise for the health service when he appeared on The One Show.
“I just pretend to be [a nurse], they’re really doing the job, ”she said. “I think Call the Midwife has always been a love letter to the NHS and it’s wonderful, but now… [in] times of crisis and the pandemic, we really see how we need the NHS and how they are the backbone of our society and we hope that they will be appreciated in the future. coming. “
George said that the 2020 program was “everything you would expect from a special Call the Midwife Christmas program -“ it’s a lot of fun, very traditional. The action takes place in late 1965, when a circus comes to Poplar, with a very experienced ring master, Peter Davison, new from his role in the BBC One drama Life One. The special will also return the previously seen Call the Midwife character for a moving story with Shelagh Turner (Laura Main), while Trixie receives a sad Christmas present from her aunt – a membership to the “Marriage Bureau” .
