$ 450,000 Compromise Agreement: This is the amount Nicky Minaj will pay Tracy Chapman

Minaj, the famous hip-hop star, used an excerpt from Champagne’s poetry, without asking for her approval. The result? A particularly well-publicized lawsuit, and reaching a compromise is not particularly cheap

Nicki Minaj is going to pay veteran musician Tracy Chapman close to half a million dollars, following copyright infringement. This is a compromise agreement which is determined by the two.

Chapman, one of the most prominent singers and composers of the 1980s and 1990s, filed a lawsuit in 2018 against pop star Minaj after using a sample from Chapman’s well-known hit “Baby can I hold You tonight” from 1988, for her song called ” Sorry “, this is of course illegal.

Minaj, for her part, claims that the song does not appear on an official album, which was released, and it is a song for private purposes only, and in fact it was accidentally leaked, and from there, managed to be published throughout the entire network. Chapman explains that Minaj asked permission to use the song several times, and each time she received a negative answer, and despite that, she decided to use the song.

Chapman issued a public and official statement in which she writes that she is happy that the issue has come to an end, appreciates the legal outcome, and mentions that the rights of artists are protected by law, and it is important that everyone, and other artists in particular, respect them. She further explained that she politely refused Minaj, who asked her, as mentioned, several times to use the song, when the lawsuit was for Chapman the last resort, in order to protect her work, and the way, the rights of other authors.

Tracy is known as a well-known refuser when it comes to the use of her songs, as she tends to defend her songs with great piety and zeal, and does not in the vast majority of cases allow their use by other artists.
