‘He scores them all the time in training’ – Ronaldo’s 72 free-kick record that was put down to ‘bad luck’ by Pinsoglio

Backup keeper Bianconeri enjoys working with the Portuguese icon in Turin and is backing a stay put for 2021-22

Carlo Pinsoglio has recorded Cristiano Ronaldo’s “bad luck” when it comes to scoring free kicks, with the Juventus goalkeeper wanting to say that the Portuguese superstar “is scoring them all the way the time ”in training.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has stood over 72 set pieces during his time with Serie A title holders, but has found the back of the net with just one effort sin.

Sporadic displays over a dead ball have also been delivered in the colors of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Portugal, but Pinsoglio has been quick to protect a close friend from any criticism aimed at his direction.

What was said?

Juve’s third-choice goalkeeper said Tuttosport of Ronaldo’s free kicks and his connection to the 36-year-old celebrity: “Cristiano always gives free kicks in training and always scores them.

“I don’t know why he can’t do it in games, it’s probably bad luck.

“I have a wonderful relationship with him, my teammates make fun of me for saying that I will go to the Euro with the Portuguese staff and Cristiano.

“Ronaldo is a simple man, not a star, he is quiet, he likes to laugh and have fun. ”

Will Ronaldo stay at Juventus?

Today’s image is likely to get many more opportunities to develop his free-kick record before the end of the season, with Juve looking to defend the domestic crown.

Questions are being asked, however, about how long Ronaldo will stick around in Italy as he approaches the final 12 months of his contract after returning to Madrid to pick up.

Asked about Ronaldo’s future, Pinsoglio said: “I don’t know, but I hope so because he has a big impact.

“He has one year left on his contract. I hope and think it will stay. In theory, it will stay unless something strange happens. ”

The bigger picture

Ronaldo will be determined to end the current campaign with more silverware for his name no matter what happens beyond that point.

Pinsoglio believes Juve can win its 10th Serie A title despite currently sitting 10 points off the distance in third place.

He said: “It is a difficult time for us, we need to improve, but there is too much negativity.

“I think about 2010. I was a youth player and we lost 4-1 to Fulham. The blows against Sampdoria and Napoli stopped us from even finishing sixth.

“There were a lot of strong players at the end of their careers and the new signs were disappointing. There was tension within the club.

“Now Juventus now have the best player in the world, some exciting young players, a strong club.”
