Hadassah Ein Kerem: A Corona patient gives birth in an emergency surgery, the baby did not survive

A verified corona patient arrived at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital, who was immediately admitted to the corona ward, which was also attended by a midwife who admitted her to the ward.

The hospital said the woman, in her ninth month of pregnancy, did not feel fetal movements for 24 hours, and even delayed several hours after calling the center. Upon her admission to the hospital ward she was hooked up to a monitor. At the same time, a doctor from the gynecology department was called to the coronary department who performed an ultrasound that did not demonstrate fetal movements.

Under the Corona’s restrictions, an emergency surgery team was organized according to the strict protection procedures, and then the woman was taken to the delivery room for a caesarean section, with the teams of specialist doctors doing everything to help with the complex and difficult situation the baby was in. At the end of the operation and in light of his condition, the resuscitation was performed on the baby and he was hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit in a very serious condition.

The complex condition with which the mother and fetus arrived, gave its signals even after the surgery, during the treatment of a mother who needed certain urgent medical procedures. On Saturday night the baby was pronounced dead.

The examination of the case shows that the mother waited for 40 minutes for a caesarean section. Hadassah explained: “The staff defended and prepared her for surgery, including her anesthesia.”

Hadassah said: “We are studying in depth the unfortunate case that was of course reported to the Ministry of Health, And emphasize that the hospital is prepared, despite the severe limitations, to also treat corona-sick mothers. Our hearts go out to the mother and her husband. The Hadassah team continues to surround them and assist them at this difficult time. ”
