Google to speed up Chrome release cycle to four weeks

Washington: Google is working on accelerating the release cycle of Chrome updates to four weeks from the current six-week period to improve the security, speed and stability of the browser application.

According to The Verge, starting with Chrome 94 in Q3, 2021, Google will release milestones of its browser every four weeks, instead of every six weeks. This is the first time Google has released their Chrome newsletter for more than a decade.

“As we improved our test and debugging processes for Chrome, and used bi-weekly security updates to improve our patch gap, it became clear that we were able to shorten our solution cycle and deliver new features faster, ”explained Alex Mineer, Chrome’s program manager technician.

In addition, Google will add a new ‘Extended Stable’ option, with milestone updates every eight weeks. The new option will be available to enterprise administrators and Chromium spies who need extra time to manage updates.

Important security updates still arrive every two weeks in this version, but Extended Stable should hopefully avoid the situation where Chrome’s silent tests end up shouting IT.

For users on Chrome OS, the company also plans to support a number of stable solution options.
