Google released the latest version of their browser, Chrome 89, this month and the tech giant said the browser is more memory efficient and launches even faster.

The California-based company explained in a blog post the improvements it has made with the new version for both Windows and macOS.

Google said it was seeing ‘significant’ memory savings on Windows, up to 22% in the browser process, and that the company had improved the browser’s responsiveness by up to 9%.

Google is able to recover up to 100MB per tab, which they say is more than 20% off some popular sites. This is because Chrome eliminates the fact that the front tab is not actively used as large images that are scrolled off the screen.

On macOS it saves 8% due to the handling of its back tabs. This has kept Mac cooler as Apple’s Power Impact score has gone up by 65%.

Google has repackaged Chrome on Android and the update has helped reduce crashes due to resource depletion, improved memory, faster startup times and faster page loads.

Users who built the latest Android devices with Android Q + and 8GB + of RAM, will get the rebuilt Chrome which loads pages 8.5% faster and 28% slower.

Google said it has accelerated Chrome’s startup process by 13% on Android. The company uses a feature called Freeze-Dried Tabs that saves a lightweight version of tablets that are similar in size to a screenshot, but support scrolling, zooming, and tapping on links.

Google uses these freeze-dried tabs at startup while the real tab loads in the background, bringing users to their pages faster.
