Google Guest mode launched for smart home devices

On January 13th, 2021, Google announced the launch of Guest Mode. They have introduced this feature as “another easy way to control your privacy on Smart Speakers and Smart Displays.” That includes Google Nest and Google Home speakers as well as several Google-based Smart Displays. This system was initially launched in English and is likely to roll out to other devices and languages soon.

While Guest Mode is on, Google Assistant audio recordings and activity will be automatically deleted after tasks are completed. Google Assistant does not say or display personal results that would normally be available to an activated account.

At the same time, Guest Mode continues to save activity related to Google services such as Maps or YouTube. This activity does not have to be linked to one specific account, but Google could save it nonetheless. Media or smart home services used by Guest Mode user can be saved by Google (as long as they are in Guest Mode).

Available while Guest Mode is on: Smart Display-enabled photo frame photos, home notifications, notifications from features like Family Bell and Broadcast, play media, smart home control, get local info, and most of actions in rituals.

If you want to know more about Guest Mode directly from your Google Assistant, just say “Hey Google, tell me about guest mode.” You can also check for Guest Mode by saying “Is it Guest Mode?” Guest Mode can be applied to your smart home device by saying “Hey Google, turn on Guest Mode.” Guest Said Mode can be turned off just as easily by saying “Hey Google, turn off guest mode.”
