The French international who won the World Cup is now 34 years old, but he remains as strong as ever and sees no reason to start slow down
Olivier Giroud may be 34 years old, but the Chelsea striker says he has not lost any of his convictions and believes he is capable of reporting Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s longevity.
The enigmatic Swedish striker is still going strong at AC Milan despite counting down to his 40th birthday.
New terms are being picked up for Ibrahimovic at San Siro, with a brilliant modern day with no sign of slowing down.
Cristiano Ronaldo is another support to play into the fourth decade, with the five-time Ballon d’Or maintaining impressive levels at Juventus.
Giroud is ready to embark on a similar journey, with the World Cup-winning Frenchman never to consider retiring any time soon.
He has played his way back to favor at Stamford Bridge this season, having seen a move elsewhere speak out, saying he is ready to stay at the top of his game for some time yet. .
The French international striker told Chelsea Podcast Mike’d Up on getting better with age and living ambitious: “It’s about your motivation, what you put into your training to stay healthy, looking after your sleep, the you eat, always want to help the team to reach the target.
“I have no doubt [about scoring goals]. Obviously, there are times when you get more or less a score but the main thing is to keep confidence high. When you are in a difficult time, just keep working hard in training because you will not lose your virtues.
Giroud said: “Nothing will be given. In life you always have to go for rewards and prizes. Football is an eternal new beginning, which is one of my favorite sentences. You have to go again week after week.
“I’m still hungry. I think I can still play at the highest level for a year or two at least and I have high expectations of what we can achieve with Chelsea and the national team.
“I believe it is the same for those players who are 34, 35, 36, 38. Zlatan thought he could still bring something to European football and it has been shown from the beginning of the season.
“I feel ready and more confident than I was before. Obviously, when I’m on the pitch I try to be efficient and it works well. I’m running well and I want to keep up. “
Giroud is only tied to terms in west London through to the end of the season but, having reached nine goals in the current campaign, he may have found he was fit for another short-term extension.
