The first time I heard a hearing through a Devialet Ghost speaker, I thought the sound waves were going to melt my eyes out of their sockets. And then I heard the $ 2,000 speaker price tag, and instead they would melt from my ears. Devialet is announcing an updated version of the Phantom – the Phantom I – with some new gowns, updated color trails, power levels, and a few new features – oh, and it costs more.

In terms of design, Devialet is not separated from the oblong shape or overall look of the Phantom. Inside, the main difference is the Ghost I features a new, next-generation chip-on-a-chip system. Apparently, its smaller size means the Ghost I has better power efficiency, lower distortion, and “more thermal dissipation for better energy consumption. ” TL; DR – Devialet says the new SoC should translate to better acoustics and be up to four times more energy effective of previous versions.

The Phantom I also features two power levels, 103dB and 108dB. That’s a slight upgrade from the original Ghost, which came in 98dB and 108dB versions. The 103dB Phantom I features a bass-to-treble bandwidth of 16Hz to 25kHZ, and has a choice of light chrome or matte black side panels. The 108dB Phantom I has a slightly larger bandwidth range of 14Hz to 27kHz, and dark chrome and 22-karat gold side panels. Both come in either matte black or lighter white. The new Phantom I speakers will have a “more intuitive interface” which includes LED signals at the back and a new backup mode.

These are a nice hardware update, but this time around Devialet seems to be adding more to the connection method. In addition to the new Devialet OS, the new speaker is also supported Improved AirPlay 2 and universal plug-and-play of up to 24 beats. Also on deck is a redesigned remote physical device, and a new Arch hub accessory to enable analog connection.

However, you ask, How much? Well, the 103dB version will sell for $ 2,200 and the 108db version will be $ 3,200. To be fair, that’s not the real concern we’ve ever heard for loud speakers targeting audios. There is, for example, there Bugatti’s hidden speakers so expensive they don’t even list the price. Still, e is quite expensive for the average person, when you consider other options from Sonos and Apple original HomePod retail for less than $ 500. We can’t say whether the Ghost is worth it to us until we get our hands on it. (That said, I have never met the owner of Devialet a it was not rant and rave about how good the Phantom is.) But for that price I would hope, for one person, to be blown to astronauts, my eyes weeping from the beauty of hearing.
