Gerrard: I’m waiting for my heart rate to come down!

The Scottish side resisted a deficit in the second half to pull off an interesting Europa League win

Even Steven Gerrard, a man well acquainted with European drama, had to overcome it after the Rangers side came from behind to beat Antwerp 4-3 in the Europa League on Thursday.

When the Scottish club turned from a 66-minute deficit and injured to captain James Tavernier the stoppage time from Borna Barisic was halted.

With the Scottish Premier League basically removed, Gerrard can devote full resources to Rangers ’European fights.

What did Gerrard say about the return?

“I’m just waiting for the heart rate to come down!” Gerrard told BT Sport.

“It was a great game for the neutral, I’m sure you enjoyed it, but from a manager’s point of view there’s a lot to explore.

“It simply came to our notice then, we were not at our best, and we have set three goals.

“This is the second time at this stage that we have done so and that tells me that we have a lot of work to do for our organization.

“But, listen, it’s very difficult to win away from home in Europe.

“The experience of Scottish teams going out to Europe tells me, it’s very difficult to win that this stage is away from home.

He said: “I think over the 90 minutes we deserved to win the game, we could have scored a few more goals.

“Analyzing at the moment is a cunning football game because it’s only ready but I think once I look back it will be prove that we need to work much better.

“But it shows that there is character and a lot of quality in our team.”

What is the injury to Tavernier?

Tavernier left in the first half due to an apparent injury. In addition, Kemar Roofe was injured with a calf injury.

“James [Tavernier] he’ll never go off the pitch, “Gerrard told BT Sport.” So that bothers me a bit … but we’ll look at both situations, we’ll analyze them over on the next day or two and hopefully they won’t be as bad as originally feared. “
