Georginio Wijnaldum explains a touchline series with Dutch leader Frank de Boer

Georginio Wijnaldum has played down the importance of back and forth with Frank de Boer on the late handline in the Dutch victory over Latvia.

10 minutes after Luuk de Jong gave the Netherlands a 2-0 win in a World Cup qualifying case, Frank de Boer made several changes to his team and Georginio Wijnaldum was one of them.

As Wijnaldum made his way to Ryan Gravenberch, the Liverpool midfielder expressed his fears about the substitute.

Wijnaldum

Wijnaldum seemed to be embroiled in controversy over De Boer’s decision before making his way down the tunnel but the 30-year-old insisted it was not an issue worth considering. .

“My agent? Yes, I was a little disappointed. But we shouldn’t do more than that, ”said Wijnaldum Dutch TV Station NOS.

“I wanted to stay on the pitch because I felt I could score another goal as Latvia were becoming more open in defense.

“But the coach and I have already talked about it, it’s not a bad thing.

“You have fun in the game and you don’t really want to be taken off. But you have players on the bench too, of course, and I also think this is a good time to put them in to keep the feeling across the team as good as possible.

“So on the one hand I was a bit embarrassed, but on the other hand it’s also good for the group process when other men are playing as well.”

Wijnaldum is one of the first names on De Boer’s team page and he gets plenty of time during the certification campaign.

The Dutch midfielder is still linked with a move away from Liverpool in the summer when his contract expires, with Barcelona ready to push for Wijnaldum when the transfer window reopens.
