Shanghai police said on December 28 that the 39-year-old Chinese video game tycoon, who died on Christmas Day, was poisoned. Lin Qi, former chairman and director of games developer Yoozoo, was taken to hospital with “severe symptoms of illness”. According to the BBC, Shanghai police identified one of Lin’s colleagues as the main suspect.
On Monday, Shanghai police reported that the hospital had confirmed that Lin had been poisoned. They said they had detained a colleague of Lin’s, named after his surname Xu. In addition, the police statement also stated that Xu was a suspect and was arrested “in accordance with the law under which the relevant investigation work is conducted”.
Lin’s company, Yoozoo Games, is best known for the strategy games ‘Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming’ and is a producer of the upcoming Netflix adaptation of science-fiction fiction The three-body problem. Yoozoo pays homage to Lin
According to reports, Lin was a star of China’s lucrative game market and had also researched film production. He founded Yoozoo in 2009 and successfully led the company through a time when the game industry was seeing major changes towards mobile games.
