France’s new COVID cases suddenly down, hospitals up again

The French health ministry announced 4,022 new coronavirus diseases over the past 24 hours on Monday, a figure three times lower than 12,489 on Sunday but higher than 2,960 last Monday and the number of people in hospital for the disease up for the third day in a row. France, which is accelerating the spread of the COVID-19 vaccine after being criticized for starting at a snail’s pace, has now treated 24,995 patients for the virus, a high since Dec. 22.

The total number of French cases now stands at 2,659,750, the fifth highest in the world. The seven-day moving average of new diseases stands at 13,872, a 10-day high. The COVID-19 death toll rose 378, at 65,415, the seventh highest in the world, compared to a seven-day moving average of 329.
