EU elections and US President Joe Biden should “find a way” to stop a trade dispute to “poison everyone,” French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves said By Drian, in an interview published today.
“The issue that has been poisoning everyone is rising prices and taxes on steel, digital technology, Airbus and more, especially our wine sector,” said Le Drian. weekly newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche.
“If we could find a way quickly that would allow us to resolve this dispute with Europe and France, it would be a step forward,” Le Drian said. “This can take time but, at the same time, we can always order moratoria.”
Le Drian’s views blend in with those of other EU officials, who are trying to turn the page on four years of transatlantic tensions with US President Donald Trump and his strategy “America First ”.
The Trump administration announced Monday that it would begin collecting new duties on aircraft parts and other French and German products such as wine as part of the long-running battle over subsidies for Airbus and Boeing aircraft manufacturers.
