Fortnite ‘s Zero Point is starting to go subtly before season 6

We now live in the time of Zero Point in Fortnite, a mysterious curved orb that Galactus tried to eat last season, and this season, it has been spawning ports throughout the map, opening doors to various collections from Marvel and DC to The Walking Dead, Terminator and TRON.

Now, the Zero Point is starting to go wild into the game. Since the game’s last update, the Zero Point orb has broken more open, changed colors to purple and is emitting zig-zag energy lines all over the place. It feels like it’s about to blow, and when that happens, that seems to go into anything that happens for Season 2, Chapter 6.

MORE FROM FORBESFortnite meta collections: The complete list of allowed skins

What I do know is if Epic is going to continue with those last two seasons that are completely dumping IPs allowed on the game. The season before this one we had I believe nearly two dozen Marvel skins eventually contributed to the game in a season full of Marvel themes. This season, that expanded beyond Marvel, DC and Star Wars to a very unusual range of IPs: Predator, Alien, Terminator, Tron, The Walking Dead, Street Fighter, Halo, God of War, GI Joe . And yes, all of those were a single season.

Fortnite tries to create the Metaverse, and the Zero Point reminds me of Stephen King ‘s The Dark Tower series, in which all reality is linked in one plane by layers. This is different than the Multiverse, which Marvel and DC have made, but only with Marvel and DC builds, for the most part. No, this is not the case everything. Every TV, movie, IP game you’ve ever heard, or even real figures from climbers to musicians to athletes. It’s all there.

Not to mention Avengers for a reason, but we’re not clear what the endgame is here. Is Fortnite just going to keep collecting those characters to sell skin and will they put it out on the island or in creative mode from time to time? Or does a grand master plan unfold here that extends beyond the game’s usual realms?

I don’t know what will happen next season especially if the Zero Point explodes or expands or disappears, but all of this has to lead to something more than just “map changes,” although I expect those too. Or will we just keep doing this dance and next season we’ll be getting Cyclops and Hawkman and Ninja Turtle skins for no other reason to be there?

Fortnite’s desire to connect all IP reality has been unlike anything else we’ve seen in the media. It has more buildings within one game than any other crossover in history, and they are effectively permanent add-ons, assuming you can buy and own them. So what now? What are they doing carry out with this collection? That’s a question I want to start answering in season 6, which should start in about a week.
