Formula E eliminates the uncertain Paris, Sanya and Seoul race

Formula E on Thursday suspended its race in Paris due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic and said there were still planned E-Prix races for Seoul and the Chinese resort in Sanya uncertain.

The seventh season of the all-electronic series, now a FIA-controlled global tournament, kicks off in Saudi Arabia on February 26 and 27 with two night races in Diriyah.

“The current health and safety considerations make the special organization of the prestigious Paris E-Prix around Les Invalides too complex in Season Seven,” Formula E said in a statement.

“Therefore, it was agreed with the City of Paris to plan instead for the preparation of Season Eight.”

A revised calendar running until June brings the number of races to eight, with more to be confirmed in early European spring.

“We are committed to delivering a global calendar that will be appropriate for our first season as world champion,” said chief Jamie Reigle.

Rome’s April 10 slot was confirmed, with Valencia hosting the weekend of April 24 marked for Paris first. Monaco’s May 8 deadline remains unchanged.

The Moroccan city of Marrakesh was set for May 22, a day before Seoul had appeared, and races in the Chilean capital Santiago that were postponed from January were scheduled for June 5 and 6.

The March 13 tour in China had already taken place, along with Mexico City.

Formula E stated that strict protocols in partnership with host cities would ensure health and safety. The final season ended in August with six races in Berlin after several stops.

The E-Prix Valencia takes place at the Ricardo Tormo tour, where teams have tested for the past three years, outside the eastern Spanish city.
