Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been convicted of bribery and will serve a year in prison

The second French president convicted: Former French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, Was convicted of bribery and breach of trust under the court. The judges sentenced the previous president to one year in prison and another two years on probation, after the prosecution asked to send him to four years in prison.

Sarkozy is expected to appeal to a higher court to postpone the start of his sentence, at the end of which, if he is rejected, he will start serving his actual sentence.

As you may recall, Sarkozy has previously been charged with bribery, fraud and breach of trust, after attempting to skew the results of arbitration and bribery of a judge in order to disclose to him information about an ongoing investigation into his case. Sarkozy broke the law in his 2012 election campaign, spending more than double the amount allowed by law on election propaganda in France. He did so using fake invoices. The expenses amounted to close to 43 million euros.

Sarkozy is the second president to be convicted of crimes, after the president as well Jacques Chirac Above public confidence and acted in corruption during his tenure as mayor of Paris. In December 2011 a court in France also ruled that seven of its associates had broken the law.
