Forget the Golden Globe: Shira Haas will star in the series about the life of Golda Meir

Israeli actress Shira Haas will star in a new series about the life of former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir. The series, which is expected to be called “Lioness”, will be based on a biography of the same name written by Francis Klagsbrunn and published in 2017. The series will be produced by Oscar-winning singer and actress Barbara Streisand.

The book presents Golda Meir as “the Israeli iron woman” – a tough leader who smokes in a chain, and on the other hand has the character of “the good and loving grandmother”. The book goes back to Meir’s childhood in Kiev, Ukraine, her life as a teenager in the United States, the key roles she played on the way to the establishment of the State of Israel until her tenure as the first and only woman to head her government.

Shira Haas is one of the most respected and busy Israeli actresses today. Just tonight (Monday) she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award, and this nomination joins the Emmy nomination for her role in the Netflix mini-series – “The Rebel”. Haas was nominated five times for the Ophir Prize, and won it twice.
