As part of the project of the Ministry of Transportation and Ayalon Routes, two alternating lanes will be paved in the center of the road, which will allow morning travel to the south and afternoon to the north – a means that will allow six free lanes in the direction depending on load. The works are scheduled to begin this coming summer and are expected to be completed by 2025.

At the end of 2020, Ayalon Highways, led by the Ministry of Transportation, issued a tender for the completion of the northern section of the “Highways” project, which includes the construction of two interchanges in the center of Road No. 2, in the section between the Netanya Interchange and the Wingate Institute. This section is a major axis for passenger traffic from the north to the Tel Aviv metropolitan area and back from it and is in fact the northern entrance gate to the highways, as well as a feed axis for the Shefayim parking lot, which will be the largest parking lot in Israel.

The construction of the alternating lanes on the side of upgrading the existing route will significantly alleviate the congestion from the north, through six lanes in the direction instead of the three lanes that exist today. The changing lanes will allow passengers on the route to enjoy a fast, comfortable and advanced route.

As part of the project, two new lanes will be paved in the center of the road 14 kilometers long (in both directions), safety dividers will be erected between the highways and other lanes on the road, modern and comfortable bicycle paths will be paved, scenic development will be developed along the road, and new infrastructure will be installed.

The project includes shuttle services using an array of electric and modern shuttles, frequently and free of charge to five major employment centers in Tel Aviv, as well as five huge parking lots in Shefayim Rishon, Morasha, Tikva and Glilot that will allow parking for a total of 26,000 vehicles.

Uzi Levin, VP of Netivei Ayalon: “The highway project of the Ministry of Transportation through Netivei Ayalon will change from end to end the travel experience of tens of thousands of Israelis traveling by route every day, in addition to significant savings in time and money. With an innovative layout of alternating lanes, it will be possible to redirect traffic in the route in the most efficient way. In the planning, we placed a significant emphasis on safety and comfort for the drivers, including minimizing the disruption to traffic even during the construction phase of the project. “
