Floyd Mayweather has maintained a well-known work ethic despite his retirement, says Devin Haney | Boxing news

Floyd Mayweather is still training “as if he were fighting one of the top welterweights,” said Devin Haney.

Mayweather retired in 2017 after extending his record to 50-0 against Conor McGregor, although he has since won a show trophy against Tenshin Nasukawa, and is planning another one against YouTuber Logan Paul.

Now 43 and winner of the two richest fights ever in boxing, against Manny Pacquiao and McGregor, Mayweather has maintained the work ethic that modern boxing has done well according to Haney.

“His work ethic is false because he’s still working. He still gets up at 5 or 6m to go running,” Haney said. Sky Sports.

“He trains in the gym. He works like he’s fighting one of the top welterweights today.”

Undeveloped WBC lightweight champion Haney and regional rival Gervonta Davis have both spent time training under the Mayweather watch.

“It’s really good,” Haney said. “I am grateful to spend time and learn from Michael Jordan of boxing.

“He is a man who has achieved the best of his generation, and someone from whom I can learn so much.”

Haney maintains that Mayweather ‘s bras and his moniker’ Money ‘are just public opinion.

“It’s different when you get to know him, and when you spend time with him,” Haney said.

“I wouldn’t say more humble because I don’t feel like he’s cocky – he’s just doing what he has to do to motivate himself. He’s down to earth.”

Mayweather will step back into the ring under a set of ‘show’ rules similar to the Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. meeting in November.

Logan Paul lost his first boxing trip to KSI

His opponent Logan Paul lost his only professional boxing match to KSI in 2019 in the biggest fight to date between YouTubers.

“I’m a fan of the business part – it’s a great promotional fight and a great way to make a lot of money,” Haney said.

“Competition wise? It is not competition.

“Mayweather, one of the greatest fighters ever alive, against a YouTuber with little experience in boxing.

“It’s a way for him to make a lot of money and the world, whatever we say, will come in and watch it. “
