Florida health officials are reporting 5,000 new cases of COVID-19, 166 new deaths

ORLANDO, Fla. – This week, Seminole County vaccine slots took more than 24 hours to fill, county leaders said.

Seminole County Emergency Manager Alan Harris said the county will open its vaccination meetings Tuesday. He said this week that for the first time meetings were still available a day later.

Meetings were still available at 10am on Wednesday. Harris said all the appointments were eventually accepted. He said it was a good sign that it took longer than the slots to fill.

“We may be looking to encourage the state to move into that next priority group,” Harris said.

Harris said the state’s current plan calls for law enforcement, 911 operatives and essential vaccination workers to be next. Harris said it is unclear who deserves essential work.
